Throwback Thursday: Forbes Wetland Trail

The Forbes Family and Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship have been working together for several years.  A few years ago, SOS Stewardship worked with Gord and Steve Forbes to enhance the wetland on their property.

The enhancement project was in partnership with the Town of Oliver and OSCA, and involved invasive plant management, native plant re-vegetation, installation of a bench and community outreach.  Since then, Steve and Gord have also partnered with Stewardship to enhance the western edge, creating rose thickets to border the wetland.

Steve Forbes and volunteer John Lewall spreading bark mulch around the bench area.

"Wetlands provide beauty, function and health. Protect and enjoy."

Today, this wetland is really an oasis within Oliver. It is home to spadefoots, Painted Turtles, and dozens of species of birds.

The Forbes Wetland Trail will be one of the stops on our FREE Meadowlark Tour at 9am on May 16, where we will visit agricultural properties which are coexisting with wildlife and natural areas.  Registration for the tour is mandatory and can be done on the Meadowlark Festival website.
