Ellis Creek even Greener

You may recall, that last year Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship assisted with some habitat enhancement at Ellis Creek in Penticton.

Yesterday, teaming up with TD Tree Days, SOSCP, City of Penticton, Young Naturalists' Club of BC and the community, 80 volunteers assisted in planting over 270 native trees and shrubs.

The goal in this project is to restore the habitat, creating a rose-dominated riparian thicket providing potential recovery habitat for the endangered Yellow-breasted Chat.

Together with Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship staff, volunteers planted a variety of native plants and seeds including wood's rose, sandbar willow, waterbirch, red-osier dogwood and a variety of grasses including bluebunch wheatgrass and sand dropseed.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who came out to help!
